Office Memorandum • UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT TO : MR. TOLSON DATE: 2/14/51 FROM : S. J. Tracy SUBJECT: FLYING SAUCERS Article in Look Magazine current issue Captain [REDACTED] Dept. of the Army, telephoned and advised he is checking on the article in the current issue of Look Magazine by Dick Wilson, Editor of the Washington Bureau of Look. He stated that in the opening part of the article he refers to the FBI and subsequent information is quoted coming from some branch of Naval Research. He stated the information reportedly coming from the Naval Research section was not cleared through proper official channels. He stated he will subsequently discuss the material with Dick Wilson in view of the fact the article contains many glaring errors. Captain [REDACTED] would appreciate it if the Bureau would advise him if Mr. Wilson contacted the Bureau with reference to the part of the article referring to the FBI. He observed that the reference to the FBI is somewhat misleading. It will be recalled Captain Long secured a quote from the Bureau in connection with the subject flying saucers. Captain Long was doing research in that field at the time in view of the concern of the Dept. of the Navy over the publication of wholly misleading and inaccurate articles on the subject of flying saucers.
